For dementia professionals

If you’re a professional working with people living with dementia in the health, care or other support sectors, Cognitive Books can be used to create engaging and enjoyable activities for your service users.

As a physical, long-lasting item that can be enjoyed by more than one person, Cognitive Books offer a valuable addition for settings such as a care home, domiciliary care visits, dementia cafés and day centres.

I’m a big fan of technology and innovation helping someone living with dementia, but they only have a finite time as the condition progresses. You need to go back to solid basics like a book. Something you can hold, something that feels familiar, that you can enjoy with someone else and have that social interaction – what a wonderful gift that is. Cognitive Books have longevity.

Benefits to readers

With their accessible, familiar stories presented in easy-to-read chunks, Cognitive Books are perfect for book groups, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions and other reminiscence activities.

You can ask the group to follow the story using the free audio version as a guide, then either pause after each section, or read the entire book, before using the prompt questions and exercises found at the end of the book to stimulate discussion around the theme.

Cognitive Books are the first recreational reading material for people living with dementia that’s supported by Alzheimer's Society. These unique books are co-created with people living with dementia, so they remove many of the barriers that prevent reading.

Helping you help your service users

All our books include a Supporters’ Guide with hints and tips to make the most of Cognitive Books. We also provide specific support for professionals to help create an interactive, sensory experience for service users.

Cognitive Books can be read independently or with support from others and are an ideal gift for residents moving into a care home setting.

If used as a group activity within care homes we recommend buying one book for every three residents. If you’re looking to purchase five books or more, you can contact our distribution partner CBL.
